ABOUT UPHILL POTTERY

Uphill Pottery is a one-woman business operated by ceramic artist Katrina Razionale Vahedi, at the top of a steep hill in rural northern Vermont.

Working with clay is a direct connection between the earth and countless moments of human ritual. The vessels we use every day connect us to each other and to the materials that make up everything around us - from sand to trees to trace minerals that bring color to our lives.

I’m interested in the relationship between clay and glaze, such as the way a thick glaze may move on a pot, or highlight areas of texture. Often my pots have minimal adornment so that this clay-glaze relationship can be the star of the show.

After leaving a career based in spreadsheets and computers for pottery, I’ve ironically brought spreadsheets back into the studio practice through deep learning in glaze chemistry - something so rich and complex it’s sure to occupy her interest for years to come.

LESSONS

Private lessons are available by appointment, for a sliding scale* rate of $50-$75/hour, with a 1.5-hour minimum. Wheel lessons are limited to 1-2 people at a time as there is just one wheel in the studio. Hand-building lessons could be for groups of up to 4 or 5; reach out for group pricing. Lesson rates include clay used and firing of several finished pieces (optional).

To inquire about lessons, email hello@uphillpottery.com with your pottery hopes and dreams.

*Not sure where you fit on this scale? If you are a student, on fixed income, or struggle to balance your monthly expenses, choose $50. If you can afford vacations, own multiple homes, are able to save money regularly or otherwise have no trouble paying for these lessons - choose $75.
